1860 Henry Transitional Rifle (Modified 1866)
Here I share some information about why and how I took an 1866 Winchester, and modified it into a rifle that resembles a Transitional Henry, or a prototype 1866 (according to the patent). The main difference between this and a normal 1860 Henry is the loading gate. This particular rifle was made by Uberti, and chambered in 38-40.

Objectively Best Way to Swing a Hammer in Blacksmithing
Переглядів 8 тис.9 місяців тому
I intended for this video to be an unedited, low-effort video. This has turned into a multi-month project with different added scenes and consultation with friends. This is by no means as comprehensive or detailed as it could’ve been, but I feel it gives a really good foundation for hammer technique in hand forging. Please take time to listen to the entire video, including the disclaimers and...

Whatever you can imagine is now possible. Keep the ways clean and oiled and check the oil level in the gearbox. Must be able to see the oil level in the sight glass. That gearbox is the "heart" of your lathe. Good deal.

Big old lathes are great value if you have the room and means to transport thrm. The typically fetch less than smaller lathes in simmilar condition because the market for them is much smaller.

Always fascinated by the devices and tools made in the past, that aren't made anymore, that not only were often times ingenious, but in many cases were better than what came after in both its focused simplicity, and all that that implies, and how with decent maintenance can still out perform more expensive equipment for it more "primitive" design. The power hammer is hitting hard enough to rock the camera with each strike. XD

That’s probably not the intention from the factory, but I had a purpose for loosening it off a little while ago and just haven’t remembered to screw it back yet. It has not affected the performance of it yet so I keep forgetting.

The crescent wrench is a brand name. I learned in my auto shop class in 1972, you are using an open end adjustable wrench. I was only one that got it correct on a test to name tools, all the guys called it a crescent wrench & got it wrong! I was so happy the teacher told the class, I was the only one in the class that got it correct! Hello 👋🏻 from Southern California 🌴

We call that pipe a cheater bar. If you need a cheater bar you should be using a box end wrench because the adjustment mechanism allows for too much slop increasing the likelihood of rounding the bolt or nut.

Those wrench’s are garbage, u out them on the fastener and they’re loose, u tighten them on to the fastener then when u take it off to turn the fastener again it’s not too small to fit, those adjustable wrench’s are only good for emergencies and the off chance u don’t have a specific size or if the head of the fastener is giant

Have you considered using the handles for their intended purpose to see if there is any advantage that may outweigh any strength deficit? I'm guessing a perpendicular grain will give you a mechanical advantage like bow wood.
